Bone and Joint Awareness Week

Bone and Joint Awareness Week 2018

#Mobility is Medicine

@MSKHealthGlobal

We support all the initiatives below and wish everyone great success in their activities and promotional events.

We have chosen the overarching theme of “Mobility is Medicine” that aligns with data recently released by the The World Health Organisation on the 5th September this year in The Lancet Global Health (insert link http://www.who.int/ncds/prevention/physical-activity/lancet-global-health-insufficient-physical-activity-2001-2016/en/).

These data show that more than one in four adults globally (28% or 1.4 billion people) are physically inactive and in some countries this figure can be as high as one in three adults. They also show the need for all countries to increase the priority given to national and sub-national actions to provide the environments that support physical activity and increase the opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, to be active every day.

During Bone and Joint Awareness Week we urge everybody everywhere to increase their physical activity and to share their experiences through Facebook and Twitter.

Let’s try and reduce our time on the sofa, take more physical breaks at work and walk part of the way to work, and remember that

Small steps can lead to BIG CHANGES!

#Love your Spine

#LoveYourSpine will highlight the importance of spinal health and wellbeing. Promotion of physical activity, good posture, responsible lifting and healthy working conditions will all feature as people are encouraged to look after their spines and stay active.

With an estimated one billion people worldwide suffering from back pain, it affects all age groups, from children to the elderly. It is the biggest single cause of disability on the planet, with one in four adults estimated to suffer from back pain during their lives. Prevention is therefore key and this year’s World Spine Day will be encouraging people to take steps to be kind to their spines.
